Unit 3. Extinction of species.

Write in your notebook.

Global Warming
Pollution
Deforestation
Overfishing
Forest fires
 Overhunting

All these things can destroy habitats or entire ecosystems. They cause Species extinction and less biodiversity.

What is Global warming?
Global warming is the gradual increase of the temperature on Earth.
Human activities produce large amounts of greenhouse gases such as Carbon Dioxide (Co2) Methane, etc.

What is deforestation?
Deforestation is when forests are destroyed by cutting trees (logging), it is a major cause of habitat destruction. The land is then mainly used for farming.

Homework
1. Write a list of things that you can do to stop global warming or create a poster in your notebook.

Unit 3. Food Chain and Food Web

Today, we learn about food chains and food webs in our environment.
  • A food chain is aflow of energy from a  green plant (producer) to an animal (consumer) and to another animal (another consumer) consumer and so on.
  • All organisms need energy to live.
  • Energy is obtained from food.
  • In nature, the food chains are highly cross-linked and complicated.
  • Most living things belong to more than one food chain.
What is a food web?
A food web is a natural interconnection of food chains.
What is a predator?
A predator is an animal that captures. kills and eats an animal of another species.
What is a prey?
A pray is an animal that is eaten by a predator.
What are scavengers?
Scavengers eat dead plants and animals that other living things kill.
Examples: Vultures, hyenas, worms, crows, ants, etc.

Unit 3. Levels of Organization

Hi Children,
These are your activities for today.

Copy the next information in your notebook and represent the different levels of organizations with pictures or drawings.

Ecology is a branch of biology that studies how organisms interact with each other and with their environment.
Each level of organization is smaller than the next.

An organism is an individual living thing.
A population is a group of individuals that are from the same species.
A Community is formed by different populations that interact with each other in a defined area.
An Ecosystem is a community of living things and the physical environment that surrounds them.
A Biome. Large areas on Earth with similar climates and similar organisms
The Biosphere is the sum of all the ecosystems on Earth.

Natural. S. Unit 2. Project

Chose an ecosystem and do a presentation: the Atacama or Sahara desert;  The Great Barrier Reef, The Amazon Rainforest or the Serengeti National Park.

Your presentation must include:

  • Characteristics of the Ecosystem.
  • Location.
  • Climate
  • Flora
  • Fauna. Describe one of your favourite animals in your ecosystem.
  • Curious facts about your ecosystem. ( Animals in danger of extinction, animals adaptations to their ecosystem, etc)

Format: Poster or Digital Presentation.👈

Include pictures or videos on your presentation.

Think 💭about the structure of your presentation.

Prepare what you are going to say💬.

Due date: Monday 11th January 2021👈

Assessment: 70 %  Poster or Digital Presentation 30% Oral Presentation

Try your best.😊
